On behalf of Classic wheels of Cape Town we are able offer an 8 day rally in South Africa’s Cape in March 2012. Classic Wheels offer classic car rentals and are experts in the leisure-rally-travelling. They have held several rallies for European and American clients and are by far the best partner when it comes to these special interest trips.

During your 8 day trip in South Africa you will have 4 days of self driving experience in a vintage convertible of your choice.

You will discover Cape Town in a chauffeur-driven vintage limousine on one of the days and another day will be spent in the magical winelands on a guided tour. The last day in Cape Town can be spent at your own leisure.

Cape Town and the surrounding countryside offers wonderful scenic roads which make South Africa’s Mother City a motoring fan’s dream destination. Apart from the famous Winelands and Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the most spectacular coastal drives in the world, there are breathtaking mountain passes, picturesque little towns along insider routes and so much more.

Leaving the Alps

Sadly it’s been a less than perfect driving day with torrential rain and low cloud. Which is immensely sad as we left Courmayeur this morning, touched on France briefly through Chamonix and Col de la Forclaz, and into Switzerland. It’s been a stunning route, as I well know having driven this many times in sunny weather, but hardly anyone has been able to enjoy it, as the low cloud has hampered visibility. Also most people have been mopping up and bailing out – E-types are not exactly the most waterproof of cars, even the fixed head coupes.

However, many of us stopped in Martigny to enjoy the car museum and Monet exhibition at Fondation Pierre Gianadda, before pressing on to the Ollon-Villars hill climb and over the Col de la Croix to Les Diablerets. The mountains get smaller and more open as we head towards the pre-alpes. Next stop was Gruyeres, the gorgeous, medieval hilltop town, known for its eponymous cheese. Fondue for lunch followed by visits to the cheese factory, and then the delicious Cailler chocolate factory for dessert. The Swiss dairy industry was well-supported by us all.

Open plains beckoned as we drove north to lovely Fribourg and on to Murten (where we return tomorrow), before rounding Lake Neuchatel to the city of Neuchatel, where we’re staying for 2 nights, right on the lake edge. Dinner tonight is in the restaurant overlooking the harbour, and the skies have cleared and the sun is out. And the cars have a chance to dry out.

Based in Cheshire, at the ultra modern Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa, nestling on the outskirts of Tarporley village, this tour will explore the gentle countryside of Cheshire with its sleepy villages, its canals and its industrial past and the magnificent rugged terrain of Derbyshire – the Peak District.

Welsh Border Tour

The dramatic landscape of the Brecon Beacons National Park is of sweeping views are of rugged escarpments, mountains and untamed moorland. Panoramas that stretch into the distance and take your breath away. Lying to the east of the Beacons is the Wye Valley, hailed as the most romantic valley in Wales, and almost three centuries later the scenes are just as splendid. Ancient woodlands on the valley sides have created a haven for wildlife, with varied species of trees, wild flowers and birds.

Preceding this preparation for winter the trees present a spectacular color show. Leaves that have been green all summer turn to brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red.

Jaguar Drivers’ Club: North Portugal Tour

Starting and finishing in Santander, the tour will head south to the enchanting city of Salamanca, before crossing into Portugal. E-Type Club: Scottish Highlands & Islands

Spend a delightful twelve days discovering the truly stunning Scottish Highlands and some of the Western Isles. Nowhere else in Britain can match the Scottish Highlands & Islands for sheer splendour and dramatic landscape.
