Accommodation
Stay in two lovely guesthouses, for two nights each. The first is a charming 17th century country house, near Windermere, with log fires, Aga-cooked breakfasts, and afternoon cream teas. The second is a beautiful farm house bed and breakfast in the north of the Lake District. The large, comfortable bedrooms overlook the mountains
Itinerary
Day One
Start in Windermere and drive south along the lakeside to Newby Bridge. Turn north to Far Sawrey and enjoy a visit to Hilltop, the former home of Beatric Potter. Continue onto Hawkshead and Coniston and drive alongside Coniston Water and back up the far side to Ambleside. Return to Windermere.
Day Two
Head south from Windermere to Kendal. Visit Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall before driving onto Cartmel Priory and Holker Hall. Enjoy the Lakeland Motor Museum before returning to Windermere.
Day Three
Drive to Ambleside and across Wrynose Pass and Hard Knott Pass to Muncaster Castle on the coast. Head north to Cockermouth via Wastwater. Stay in Lorton.
Day Four
Drive across Buttermere Fell and up Borrowdale to Keswick, past Derwent Water. Visit the Cars of the Stars Motor Museum or the Cumberland Pencil Museum! Drive to Ambleside and then turn north over the Kirkstone Pass to Patterdale and Ullswater. Continue north into Skiddaw Forest, scene of many a rally stage, to Bassenthwaite. Return to Lorton.
Day Five
Drive across Whinlatter Pass to Keswick and continue onto Penrith. Depart for home.
